Esta anécdota empezó a gestarse en algún lugar del ciberespacio, durante varias de esas salas de reuniones en las que nos vimos envueltos debido al confinamiento físico durante la pandemia, en donde quizás las dinámicas al percibirse más impersonales por la modalidad virtual, también conllevan a acentuarse distintas barreras como la del lenguaje.
Pertenezco a un estado fronterizo de México y soy consciente de que esta frontera no está solo dividida por un muro de concreto o una valla de hierro, ese muro también se hace presente en el juego del lenguaje y en las formas de relacionarnos, cuando inevitablemente la conciencia de pertenecer a un país u otro marca una diferencia y perpetúa dinámicas que benefician a quienes han tenido el privilegio de acceder a ciertas oportunidades. Como hijas del sistema capitalista en el que nos desarrollamos, inevitablemente sucumbimos a éste tipo de dinámicas; las del valor en función de tu utilidad para algo en determinado plazo. ¿Qué podemos hacer para ser parte sin que esta corriente nos arrastre en la búsqueda de un lugar para hacer lo que nos gusta?
Durante algunos años ha estado presente el conflicto de no dominar bien el idioma inglés ya que viviendo en una zona fronteriza lo he percibido como un obstáculo para desarrollarme y he desistido varias veces por mi falta de habilidad y la frustración resultante, pero recientemente viví una experiencia que me dejó con inquietudes sobre el tema. Formaba parte de un programa para una asociación conservacionista norteamericana y durante mi experiencia trabajando dentro del programa siempre fui consciente cómo esta barrera del lenguaje iba representando una limitante para desarrollarme como esperaba, aunado a ésto otras dificultades relacionadas al proyecto en marcha influyeron para decidir dejar el proyecto y continuar abriéndome camino por otros medios.
Aprendí, contribuí y pude aplicar varias de las ideas que propuse, sin embargo, conforme pasaba el tiempo me fui desalentando al estar más consciente del manejo y toma de decisiones las cuales desde mi punto de vista no eran congruentes con la forma en la que se me presentaron cuando fui seleccionada para formar parte.
Mi primer reacción fue de cierta indignación y decepción, también llegué a pensar que me estaba victimizando, pero al pasar del tiempo me di cuenta que en gran parte ésta situación responde a una manera tan normalizada y pautada por el mismo sistema (capitalista) en el las personas son recursos que se valoran en función de su utilidad, el extractivismo no sólo se da en el contexto de los recursos naturales sino también en el de los humanos, los personales. Siempre habrá algo a cambio, pero también siempre está la posibilidad de tener un impacto aún mayor si ésta visión fuera más allá, más a largo plazo y considerando el crecimiento real de los integrantes de un equipo.
Quizás esperaba que en el área de la conservación y sobre todo de la educación, existiera un intento real de las asociaciones bien consolidadas por romper estos esquemas al consolidar las colaboraciones, más eso escrito en una visión y misión no siempre se lleva del todo al terreno de la práctica.
Toda esta situación me lleva a cuestionarme si algunas de ustedes han pasado una situación similar y cómo la han solventado, cuántas más mujeres latinoamericanas además de los ya conocidos obstáculos del patriarcado, se les suma también el del lenguaje. Como sea, nos abrimos paso y es importante no desistir por el aprendizaje pero más que nada si te encuentras en posición de hacer algo al respecto por otras personas en situación desaventajada, házlo. Creo que se pierden eslabones muy valiosos en la cadena de colaboraciones cuando no se le da importancia a invertir en las capacidades de un equipo, sobre todo cuando se supone que ésto es un reflejo de la visión que se persigue.

For some years, the conflict of not having a good command of the English language has been present; since living in a border area, I perceived it as an obstacle to develop myself and gave up several times due to my lack of ability and the frustration ended, but recently I had an experience that left with concerns on the subject. I was part of a program for a North American conservation association, and during my experience working within the program, I was always aware of how this language barrier represented a limitation to develop as expected, coupled with these other difficulties related to the ongoing project influenced my decision to leave the project and continue to make my way through other means.
I learned, contributed, and was able to apply several of the ideas that I proposed. However, as time went by, I became discouraged as I became more aware of management and decision-making, which, from my point of view, were not consistent with how It appeared to me when I was selected to be part of it.
My first reaction was certain indignation and disappointment. I also came to think that he was victimizing me, but as time went by, I realized that, in large part, this situation responds to a way that is so normalized and guided by the same (capitalist) system in the people are resources that are valued based on their usefulness, extractivism not only occurs in the context of natural resources but also in that of human, personal resources. There will always be something in return, but there is also always the possibility of having an even greater impact if this vision goes further, more long-term, and considering the real growth of the team members.
Perhaps I expected that in the area of conservation and especially education, there would be a real attempt by well-established associations to break these schemes by consolidating collaborations, plus what is written in a vision and mission is not always fully carried out on the ground. of practice.
This whole situation leads me to question whether some of you have been through a similar situation and how you have solved it, you have more Latin American women in addition to the well-known obstacles of patriarchy, and language is also added. Anyway, we made our way, and it's important not to give up on learning but, more than anything, if you find yourself in a position to do something about it for other disadvantaged people, do it. I believe that very valuable links in the chain of collaborations are lost when investment in the capabilities of a team is not given importance, especially when this is supposed to be a reflection of the vision that is being pursued.
